Cold(ish) at 34... water temps in the mid 40's. Pretty decent shad kill going on... generating at 3200cfs +/- Wading dangerous except for small isolated pockets. A fair number of bait-chunkers lining the shore.. only saw 2 other fish caught.
Trout were keying in on shad, as were the gulls, so topwater wasn't an option (gulls attacking fly and frankly dang near impossible in the current).
Only real option (IMHO) was out of a boat. Fished near the dam but had to hunt for concentrations of feeding fish... the shad kills came in waves.. so one had to be mobile and key in on the gulls (just like saltwater fishing)... fish were keying on shad in the upper water column and in a particular size... so it was very challenging. The ride up through the sluice was like running whitewater in a flatbottom (pretty darn exciting)
At any rate.. lots of dinkers in the 8-10" range.. a couple of larger in the 14-16" range. The silver lining is spread out fish because of the near constant generation.. and fish "hiding" in areas not easily accessible.. the water is still quite low even though it's flowing fast.. so intimate knowledge of the underwater channels is required to safely navigate into fishing lanes.
I hear they are putting fish into the pond at entergy park... which should provide easy pickin's.

Fished below the dam yesterday 3/05/10 and I do not remember seeing it so low! The two islands were one. You could walk from shore to shore without getting wet dang near. Fish were not going along with the fishing idea, catching was slow to none. Lot's of bucket sitters.

Dave, the fish are spread down stream... or down lake, depending on your perspective... I fished 3/6 with narry a bite... some bait chunkers were doing ok.. and by OK I mean 3-4... I also fished 3/7 and caught 1... saw 1 other fish caught.. they should start moving up into the tailrace soon...
