Eighteenth Ever Fly Fishing Festival!!!

Yep - The Eighteenth Ever Little mo' Fly Fishing Festival will be upon us (and me) before we know it! As always, President's day weekend - this year February 14 - 16. I know, Friday is Valentine's Day, but that happens every couple or three years. Just one of those things we deal with... Looking to ...

Registration Severely Restricted!

Well, I had to do it! Open registration is completely shut down for this Message Board. Too many bots were making bogus registrations resulting in me having to do A LOT of extra work and it was starting to use up my bandwith allotments on the servers. This would force the website to go off the air o...

Re: Fall 2019 Stocking

Hey Ted! The Browns were typically small this time around - 8 or 9 inches. Gordon Shaw told me, just this morning, that he got one yesterday which was a chunky 10 incher though! Oh man! Those are some rods that go back!!! :o You've got to fish the Sage, at least! I still believe it's the best rod Sa...

New Season! October 29, 2019

Whoo Hoo! The river is troutable again! (I like that one - " troutable "!) Stocking took place last week - sometime during the week. I got a rather generic answer last time from the AGFC that fish would be by the end of the month. Including up to 2,000 Browns, which I suspect will be in today or tom...

All zeroes again with bizarre exception of a few hours starting up Tuesday at 4:00 PM! No idea! :? I sure hope the AGFC stocks either today or tomorrow ahead of that release. Might spread a few fish out a bit! 8-) At any rate, conditions the rest of the week should be nice for the fresh fish wheneve...

October 14-20, 2019

Zeros on the schedule!

That should make for good conditions on the river with the temperatures diving! If the AGFC decides to stock this coming week, the river will be stable and cool! So, if there's any "bad" water still on the lake, it won't be coming through in large volumes at all... 8-)

Fall 2019 Stocking

Okay, the word I'm getting is that not only is the normal Rainbow October stocking on track, but they are sending another 1,500-2,000 Browns ! :o We don't know, of course, exactly when the fish will arrive, but within the next two weeks (last week of October at the latest) we should see a dramatic c...

September 30 - October 6, 2019

Not that it matters much, but there's zero releases scheduled now. I haven't been up to the river in a month. There were virtually no trout left then, and the last report I got from Mike Ingram was dismal. He saw, much less caught, none two or three weeks ago. We're just going to have to wait until ...

Zero issues getting to the access!!!

In fact, they've paved a great big ramp to the water... You won't recognize the place! Turn right at the access sign around the newest cabins.

Re: Fish Kill

Indeed, factual, I'm afraid. :( Mike "Hen" Ingram sent me a few shots and I talked to him at length Tuesday as well... I suspect that we've got bad water coming off the lake after they shut off the Bunger valves. That was the time frame where Mike started to see dead fish. Certainly a lot of debris ...

Good news, as of now, for the weekdays!

No generation slated until 3:00 PM Monday thru Friday! :)

However, the weekend appears to be a bust. Generation scheduled to start up at 9:00 both mornings and running all the rest of the day! :?

Can't figure that out... It's quite odd!

Re: Generation July 29-August 4

Afraid so, John! :|

I suspect, as usual, they want to get the lake, just a little below flood. Understandable since we're about to go into peak tropical season.

Schedule shows round the clock until overnight Friday, then cranking back up at 11:00 Saturday and Sunday...

Re: Generation July 29-August 4

Monday the 29th! Lake was at 550.38' at 9:00 this morning. Still scheduled to run non stop through midnight Tuesday. That should get it very close to 548' by then and I suspect they'll be happy. They've been hoofin' water off as fast as I've ever seen it!!! Schedule for the rest if the week is crank...

They must be feeling pretty ambitious about getting water off the lake! I'd definitely have to see it before I believe it, as yet. But it's conceivable! :o

Just keep an eye on it through the weekend...

Coming soon!

Once we get out of this high water event (sometime in August...) you can expect to start seeing plenty of Light Cahills. We were starting to see them already, but they really get going late August and usually don't peak until Late September to early October. It's a pretty significant hatch - almost ...

Round the clock releases until further notice...

Lake is currently at 556.71 dropping nearly a half foot every 24 hours right now. That will get better over the coming days.

But look for 24/7 generation for probably two weeks. :?

Re: Flooding - July, 2019

Lake is just now to 556.71 feet at 10:00 this morning. I assume that at least one Bunger Valve is open based on the steady 6' reading at HWY 27. The good news is that this is almost half a foot down in the last 24 hours and only minimal rain currently in the region and drainage. BUT , still 8 feet t...

Re: Flooding - July, 2019

By the way, SWEPCO schedule for next week indeed shows 24/7 three generators starting midnight Sunday. Don't be surprised if they open Bunger valves as well. Since the AR 27 gauge went from 3.29' to 4.82' in the last two hours, expect that to go to at least 5.5' tonight. If it goes higher than that ...

Re: Flooding - July, 2019

At this point the gauge at Boughton is showing well below their threshold for letting water go. I'd suspect we're going to see full crank up if it hasn't in fact already started! Of course, I may well be wrong - they were scheduled to only run a few hours tomorrow and Sunday afternoon. I have...
