Fall 2019 Stocking

Post by jeffg » Fri Oct 11, 2019 11:10 am

Okay, the word I'm getting is that not only is the normal Rainbow October stocking on track, but they are sending another 1,500-2,000 Browns! :o

We don't know, of course, exactly when the fish will arrive, but within the next two weeks (last week of October at the latest) we should see a dramatic change in our collective mood! :)

Just be on the lookout for anyone keeping any Browns!

Hey Jeff! This Ted Brasher. Do you know what size browns were released? By the way, I pulled out the 8'9" Sage 2-3 wt you built for me back in the late 90"s and the 25th Southern Conclave Anniversary rod(9'-3wt. on St. Croix Ultra blank) that I "won". Both are unfished and in as new condition. I guess I should fish them, but they are so beautiful I am reluctant to do so. You outdid yourself on those two! Hope all is well with you. Ted

Hey Ted! The Browns were typically small this time around - 8 or 9 inches. Gordon Shaw told me, just this morning, that he got one yesterday which was a chunky 10 incher though!

Oh man! Those are some rods that go back!!! :o

You've got to fish the Sage, at least! I still believe it's the best rod Sage ever made. I've still got mine and Sandy's, although mine is now an 8'6"! Still throws just about the same! ;)

I would, however, if you are going to throw "short" (20-25 feet) suggest throwing a 4 weight on the Sage, as well as over-lining the Ultra by one. The 8'9" just likes that better and the Ultra is a pretty stout butt. It needs to load up a little more.

Thanks for the info. on stocking and the rod input. That dovetails with my thoughts as well. I think that I will save the anniversary rod to hand down to grandkids. or to donate to a future conclave, assuming there will be one. Good fishing!
