Minnows in the River

Post by UncleShorty » Mon Feb 03, 2020 7:01 pm

I'm workin' up a box of streamers to use in the Little Mo.

I'd like to tie some patterns to mimic the native minnow population. When I fish Pennsylvania I use a Blacknose Dace pattern quite successfully. Those minnows are quite common in PA streams.

What kind of minnows are in the Little Mo? All I've been able to find is a paper from a professor addressing creek chubs. But I'm thinking there must be other forage fish.

Any info would be appreciated...

Lots and lots of Silversides! Those are the skinny little ribbons of a fish, almost transparent, that jump over your fly line!

Darters, Log Perch, assorted shiners.

Can't go wrong with a Chartreuse & White Clouser! I like to tie them on size 8's with kiptail instead of bucktail.
Always On The Water - in mind at least! :ugeek:
