Hen's Nest Reports! / 21 January 2023 “The Catch Pens!”
« Last post by HEN on January 21, 2023, 07:12:00 AM »I just learned that the day after they stocked from the Spring River hatchery, they also dumped fish from the Ouachita catch pens. That’s why there are so many small fish in the river. The catch pen fish don’t get the growing time of the hatchery fish so they are always small, I think about 5 to 11 inches. That puts a few thousand more fish in the river but it also makes it harder to catch the larger fish because the little buggers jump on everything that hits the water!!
The generation has been sporadic!! They haven’t stuck to the schedule very well. They did generate Friday as posted, but not the day before. Will see what the weekend brings. Water clarity has improved significantly over the entire river and water temperatures are doing great at around 45 degrees.
