Hen's Nest Reports! / Re: 27 February 2023. “Real time info”

Mike, please don't give up the reports.  I find them of great interest and I believe others do also.  There just doesn't seem to be as much activity on the message board as in times past, but please don't quit them.

Wasn’t sure if real time posts would help anyone or not???  If not, I’ll just quit doing them and not bother you. 🤔🤔🤔.

Looks like they're trying to keep the lake level close to normal, upper river is still running a foot or so high.  Thanks for your reports Mike.

Hen's Nest Reports! / 26 February 2023 “lots of fish”
« Last post by HEN on February 26, 2023, 06:06:59 AM »
They have stuck to the posted schedule this past week and are not generating at this time on a Sunday morning. 🤗🤗. Did get a chance to sample the fish!! Lots of small fish everywhere. There are some nice 13, 14 and 15 inches in the river, just have to go thru SEVERAL really small fish to get to one. My suggestion is rig up the old one weight Brooke rod and have a ball. Water clarity has been a little cloudy because of all the rains, but it seems to help the fishing, hides all my lousy casting and odd ball flies.🤔🤔. Looks like you can fish sometime Sunday, Monday or Tuesday, go for it!!
Hen's Nest Reports! / 22 February 2023. “More catch pen fish”
« Last post by HEN on February 22, 2023, 10:13:51 PM »
Yesterday they dumped 7659 rainbows out of the Jim Collins net pens. Haven’t been able to check them because of the generation, but my bet is they are 8 to 12 inches long, typical catch pen fish. That’s 1750 at 4 locations and 659 at Low water bridge. I looked for us to get another load from the Spring river this week, but haven’t been able to check that either because of high water. If we did, it was during generation, as it was with the catch pen batch. My bet is that a lot of those little fish got washed away.

Hasn’t been much chance to fish the past two weeks. They ran one bunger valve, as well as all three generators, for a week and got the lake back to 548. They have stuck to the posted schedule this week so fishing was limited to night time or that 2 hour period in the mornings at Old Factory site and Low water bridge, before the water gets there from the 7:00 am start time. Best bet to fish looks like this weekend if they continue on schedule.

Water temperature held good while the bunger was open, and the water clarity is also good. Fish that are left in the river will be strong fighters!!  Quite a few people fished Albert Pike the pas two weeks and did fair since they did stock up there on the 10th of February. Will try to get you a Fish report soon, I’m getting a little cabin fever 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫. We all need a fish fix!!
Hen's Nest Reports! / 16 February 2023 “One bunger valve open!”
« Last post by HEN on February 16, 2023, 06:30:34 AM »
The river is rolling!!!  They have one bunger valve wide open, that really erodes the banks of the river. They have pulled the lake down to 550. By running the one bunger they can pull about .75 foot of water per day off the lake at this level. We did get more rain last night, and there is still more water to come down from Albert Pike. All this started a week ago right after they stocked fish. Those fish haven’t been harassed and have really been scattered. The fish that haven’t washed away down river are getting really strong in the current and will be a blast to catch if they ever stop generating..🤔🤔. I have reports of a few fish being caught in the high water up at Albert Pike. Can’t say for sure because I haven’t been up there. Schedule shows generation thru the weekend so no fishing anytime soon. 😞😞.
Hen's Nest Reports! / 12 February 2023 @ 8:00 am. “Don’t be fooled”
« Last post by HEN on February 12, 2023, 08:10:12 AM »
A real time warning: Don’t be fooled and drive up, they are generating, even tho the schedule shows different!!  Don’t know why they do that??  Also look at next week, generating 24/7!!!!  If we were to get big rain and the Ouachita starts to rise again, they could hold for a period of time, but who can tell when.
Generation Schedule / High Water - February ‘23 Episode
« Last post by Jeff Guerin on February 10, 2023, 04:06:50 PM »
Posting as it’s happening!

2/10 12:00 PM - lake is at 552.59’ and stabilizing. Came up almost 7 feet in a couple of days.

Schedule has been updated to show high water all day Saturday (11th) but not, as of 3:00 today, showing any releases on Sunday. I wouldn’t be so certain about that just yet! 🤔

And I say that because starting Sunday at midnight it’s going to be nonstop 24/7 the rest of next week!

I would expect that to continue for nearly two weeks IF it stays reasonably dry.

On the other hand, there’s going to be lots of very healthy fish waiting to be caught the first chance we get! 😎
Hen's Nest Reports! / 10 February 2023 “GENERATION SCHEDULE “
« Last post by HEN on February 10, 2023, 07:13:11 AM »
They did shut down generating last night and started again this morning on schedule at 7:00am. They have posted a revised generation schedule, maybe they will stick to it and not generate this Saturday or Sunday as posted!!  Watch your gages is best advise I can offer.
