The Lower Little Mo' / Where are the fish??
« Last post by Geo Tullis on February 22, 2022, 05:54:58 PM »
SOMETHING HAS CHANGED!  What has happened to our fishery? I’m not writing this post to vent.  I’m asking for input from people who’ve fished this river for ten years or more.

Are we overrun with fisherman?
Is the AGFC not releasing what they claim.  I know damn well they’ve cut back on the amount of fish released by 20%.  An AGFC biologist told me that.
Is it the lack of generation for the last three or so years?
This is not about me catching fish. If I never catch another trout in a little Missouri River, I’ve caught thousands more than my share.

The problem I have is when I bring friends to fish or my kids; it’s not poor timing. I fished Friday morning with my son and I caught ten or twelve and he caught 15.  Which is more than enough. What I’m baffled by is that I went back Saturday with a friend who is in poor health and needed to get out.
I caught two fish all day and did not see another angler catch a single fish. None!
They were no less than 15 anglers at the old factory site and they were so many people at Hinds Bluff, it’s like they were giving away gold coins down there. I saw no one catch a fish.  No one!  Something’s amiss here.
Not to mention, I went to Albert Pike and fished like a drowning man going for a log and caught one fish at the end of February? Somethings not right here.

Having fish this river REGULARLY for over 40 years, I’d love to understand just what in the chicken fried hell has happened to the fishery.  I’m wondering why in the hell 50 anglers could be on the river and no one catch a fish especially on a week when they have released fish on two days.
This situation is not a fluke, this is been going on for 3 to 4 years.

Can anyone shed some light on whether we have too many people to support our little South Arkansas Trout Fishery OR is the AGFC shorting us on the releases or is there something at play here I don’t understand?
As an aside, I see more people on this river than I do the Little Red on any given day.
Again, this is not about me catching fish; this is about our entire fishery going to hell in a handbasket and I want to know if I’m the only one that notices this.  Please be kind and your responses here.

The Upper River / Albert Pike Stocking
« Last post by GORDOBRY on February 18, 2022, 05:18:39 PM »
Does anyone know the status of trout stocking in the Albert Pike area of the Little Mo?  I had heard there was some concern trout stocking was being impacted by some who thought the trout were a threat to a small mouth species only found in that area.  We fished that area last March and while we caught a few trout and only one very small small mouth the fishing was pretty slow.  We had heard that the trout stocking had been reduced considerably.

The Lower Little Mo' / Fishing Wednesday 2/9/22

I arrived at Hinds Bluff as the water was falling out, plus to find no one else there. As the flow settled down I stepped in and caught fish from the creek inlet down to the last point before the bend. I used an A and W, Long Creek, and Olive Lil Mo wooly. Other people stopped by throughout the day, but didn't stay long, so I still had the place  mostly to myself. Two other fly fisherman arrived before I left, but they ended up going down around the bend. After lunch the action was below Butt Buster Shoals on the Temple Duck Dry/Emerger. I love drifing that fly through shallow moving water and getting hits. Also got to work on line mending as well. It was so much fun, but sadly I had to leave fairly early to get home before too late. Note to self, when getting hits but no caught fish check the hook. Yep had to fix a straightened hook.

The fish were hitting much better than my last trip, where I worked hard to catch fish. I had heard that others had experienced the same issue.

Anyway I had a great trip, caught fish, didn't fall in, and got home safely, John D

The only releases on the schedule this week are:

Thursday and Friday evenings - 6:00 to 8:00

That couple of hours early in the day will make for some good fishing down river the rest of the day!!!  8)

A little late getting posted here (I've been painting the redone bathroom!), but there were four hours of release yesterday (Tuesday) and four hours of release from 6:00 to 10:00 this morning! Not bad and, again, enough to move some fish around.

Nothing on the schedule the rest of this week, though!  8)

Thursday has just 7:00 to 8:00
And nothing for Friday, Saturday and Sunday

That's great news! At least the fish will get moved around a little bit.  8)

I'm planning to be there Sunday!  ;D
