16 September 2022. “Brown trout stocked yesterday”
« on: September 16, 2022, 10:54:43 AM »
You read right, they stocked brown trout at the park yesterday afternoon!!  Or should I sat they stocked brown trout minnows 😂😂. They are all 6 to 8 inches long!!  The large mouth bass in the river love them. Jeff sez he has seen them do early season stocking before, but that was before my time. The water temp at the park is 60 degrees this morning, even tho they haven’t generated in two days, so the fish should do fine. I did check River Ridge to see if any were put there, they were not, which is good because that water was 72 degrees!!  It was tough fishing before, and now it’s almost impossible to catch a decent fish, the little Browns jump on everything you throw. You can catch as many of those as you want because they haven’t generated. They are supposed to generate this afternoon at 12:00 and that should spread them out a little. Hope they don’t wash down in the hot water😬😬. I sent Jeff some pictures to post for me, he should do that as soon as he has time.

On another note, I met our new Little Mo’ trout biologist a few days ago. Those of you that know me, know I can’t remember his name, sorry!🤔🤔. He works for Christie Graham, who was over this river, and is now a supervisor.  Very nice guy, new this year to the Game and Fish department. He said he had some big plans for the Little Mo’ this year, guess the early brown stocking is one of them?  Maybe he will do early BiGGER rainbow trout also!!  He also had Randy Posie with him. Mr Posie has been doing odd jobs in this area, for the Game and Fish, for some time now. He is going to be doing creel surveys on the river this fall and next spring. Some of you May remember a lady named Lolita who did them a few years back. Mr. Posie will have a number of questions when he catches you fishing. It’s to our
benefit to do the surveys, and give accurate information.  It could help the Game and Fish manage this river better.

Be gentle with the little Browns. If it’s like times past when they stocked the little ones, you won’t see many in a week or so!!  Don’t know what happens to them???

Awesome, Mike! And I will add the pics to your post when I can get back to the ‘puter! 😆

As to what happens to most really fresh stockers, Browns or otherwise, a large percentage get taken out illegally! 🤔😠

I can no longer remember what the percentage was, but a great number of fresh fish (across all of Arkansas’ trout waters) are taken out within two weeks! 😵‍💫
